Top Ten Sci-Fi Movies List

Sci- fi movies are scientific fiction movies which are a popular genre of music usually dealing with aliens and other planets.  Here is a list of the top ten Sci-Fi movies.

1. Inception(2010):

Perhaps the most critically acclaimed movie of all times, Inception soared to the top of the IMDB charts within hours of its release.

The movie, which took director Christopher Nolan 14 years to think up, is one of the best Sci-Fi movies to date.

The movie revolves around the concept of dream invasion, where a dream thief is given a chance of redemption if he can achieve the impossible

2. A Space Odyssey (1968)

This was directed by Stanley Kubrica was famous for its special effects and use of prototypes and technical documents in the film.

The simulations are done brilliantly in this movie.  Brazilian tapirs are used as prehistoric animals.

3. Star Wars (1977) /Empire Strikes Back (1980)

These western movies were set in space and speak essentially about good vs. evil.  Its lead star cast was Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher.

There was a mystical aura about the film which makes it stand apart.  It talks about a universal force that can be used by people for good or for evel.

4. Alien (1979)

This sci-fi movie directed by Ridley Scott where an interstellar vessel takes a body with acid instead of blood and two jaw sets.  It is most noteworthy for its theme which stresses motherhood and birth.  It captures the essence of a space flight of long duration and what it entails.

5. Solaris (1972)

This movie by Andrei Tarkovsky is based on the novel by Stanislaw Lem.  It describes the travel of a psychologist to a faraway planed where he meets some mysterious survivors and a planet with an alien intelligence.  It was later remade by Steven Soderbergh in the year 2002.  It brings out the limitations of science. It is a forceful and tragic drama and not just a lecture.

6. Terminator (1984)/T2: Judgment day (1991)

Directed by James Cameron, this movie stars Arnold Schwarzenegger where robots from a future date send him to kill the mother of a rebel.  It deals with time travel into the future.  The sequel consisted of a shape shifting metal in the form of a person.

7. The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)

This movie was set in the background of postwar America in the cold war scenario where a flying saucer comes into Washington with a humanoid alien Klaatu in it.

Klaatu actually tries to talk sense into world leaders and scientists who are bent upon mutual destruction.

8. War of the Worlds (1953)

This movie directed by Byron Haskin talks about an Earth invasion by a Martian and talks about life that can be created in a different world under different circumstances.

9. The Matrix (1999)

This Sci-fi movie was directed by Andy & Larry Wachowski with cool special effects and absolutely fetish clothes and talks about man-made artificial intelligence and how it manages to dominate the planet.  It’s actually all about the future evil people fighting with the future good ones.

10. Close Encounters of the Third Kind

This movie was directed by Steven Spielberg and is a story about the hero’s obsession with alien visitors along with a parallel story of a powerful, all-knowing government agency.  It is a classy story of alien visitors.
